The last time I went to Oaks Bottom, back in January, the temperature was in the thirties, and I had to call it quits when my fingers couldn’t feel the buttons on my then-new camera. It was much more pleasant this time, with summer scenes of wildflowers, singing sparrows, cedar waxwings, and a downy woodpecker nest.

At the trailhead: “Pardon me, would you perchance be in possession of some food suitable for a squirrel?” A departing cedar waxwing. I heard peeps coming from this cottonwood stump near the path, so I gave it some distance and waited. Soon, the parents were back, tending to the young’uns.
Another wonderful spot! Love them all, but maybe especially that mid-step of the GBH. Or maybe the wren. Or the waxwing wings .. ! Nicely done.
